Nature ABC Cards

Download a set of our Nature ABC Cards-

these cards are multifunctional to help children develop letter recognition, spelling, sequencing and observational skills

Make your own letter book

By simply cutting, laminating and adding a ring to the corner of the cards you can create the perfect little Nature ABC Letter book. The small size is ideal for little hands and curious minds. Small children will have a blast flipping through the cards, looking at the images, and identifying the letters.

Card decor

Nature ABC border:

Bring the outdoors in by using the ABC cards to create a border for your child’s bedroom or classroom wall. Alphabetic recognition is one of the first skills children develop and is a prerequisite for developing reading and language skills. Posting the nature ABC cards as a border helps with alphabetical ordering and letter recognition as well as helping connect children to the natural world. Who wouldn’t want to look at these beautiful images every day?

Nature ABC Poster:

If the room is better suited for a poster, print, laminate and cut out the letters to combine them for a poster.

Letter games
  1. Print, cut and laminate the cards to create a fun game for hiking. Bring along the cards and have your children focus on finding one letter on your hike. Empower your children to take an image of the natural letter they find and add their own letter card to the collection!

  2. Another fun way to use the cards is to hide them in the yard, park or woods and have your children search for them. As they locate each letter they place them in order until they have completed the entire alphabet.

Make your own words

When children are developmentally ready to combine letters to make words, these cards are a fun way to practice. Children can enjoy making words on their own or be directed to find the letters to make a certain word. We recommend printing out at least 2 copies of the Nature ABC Cards to use for word creation activities, this will allow for word making with multiple of the same letter. (ex. Grass you would need 2 s cards)

Possible Games:

  • Make a word-Give children a handful of letter cards and see what word they can make

  • Boggle- Set up the letters in a 4x4 Boggle Board to see how many words can be made (Fun for the whole family!)

  • Bananagrams- Have all the cards face down and let children make their own personal scrabble board just like in the game bananagrams!

  • Memory Game- Set up the letters face down and let children try to find matches by flipping 2 letters over at a time. If there is a match leave those letters face up.

Personal Laminator

We recommend laminating these cards for all uses mentioned above. If you don’t have access to a laminator: this is the at-home laminator we use and LOVE. It heats up in just a minute and accommodates all of our laminating needs. (We’re able to put slightly bulky items and it’s 13’’ wide for bigger items too!)
