Involve children in the process!

  • Children collect sticks

  • Children use their stick ruler (metric or customary) to measure the stick for cutting

  • Children can use a marker to mark where to cut

  • If age appropriate, children can cut the stick to the size they’ve measured and marked

Stick Shapes

Making shapes out of sticks help children to recognize, name, and create shapes.

*Children will be able to learn in a hands-on way, that a square needs all the same length sticks, but a rectangle needs 2 different sized sticks.

Learning Angles with Sticks

Sticks are easy manipulatives to introduce angles in an interactive and engaging way.

No protractor? No problem! Print one from the internet and cut it out!

Once your child has mastered measuring with sticks, they can search for angles in nature with a protractor.
