Morse Code


Morse Code was invented by Samuel Morse and uses dots, dashes, and spaces to relay a message. Morse Code was invented in the 1830s and used with telegraphs to communicate to far away lands in just minutes!


Morse Code may not be used with telegraphs anymore, but children enjoy learning Morse Code. Kids like having a secret code to write and decode. Creating messages in code is a wonderful literacy activity- it allows children to practice letter recognition, spelling and the importance of writing clearly with proper spacing.   2. Collect sticks and stones outside

  3. Create messages with your friends or family using sticks as dashes and stones as dots

    *Creating Morse Code messages out of sticks and stones helps children plan & organize, as they lay out their message with letters ahead of time, be spatially aware of their workspace, develop cognitive skills as they translate letters to symbols rapidly, practice turn-taking, and apply fine motor skills as they maneuver the natural resources.
